Internship Program at SCBT

This blog contains all my internship experience in the summer at Standard Chartered Bank (Thai) Public Company Limited. It took two months between March 16 and May 15 in 2007. The reason that I decided to write this topic is that this internship program impressed me a lot with interesting project assignment & team building activities and I hope this blog will be much useful for the student who are looking for an internship program during a summer before graduation. Although it was 6 years ago but this kind of program in this bank is still not much changed because it has been well structured and organized. Until now I have come back to work at Standard Chartered Bank (Thai) again at the same fields of job with higher position, working as a System Analyst , an Assistant Manager, because I love people here, working environment, inter-bank’s culture, and this job. Moreover, there are internship trainee joined in my department and worked with my teams making me think of my past internship experience.

Turning back to my internship program, actually there are several areas for student to select which are Consumer Banking (CB), Wholesale Banking (WB), Group Technology Operation (GTO), and Support Function areas. I chose GTO - System Development department to support Credit & Operation areas. Working time is from 08:30 to 17:30 depending on each department norm, it's flexible in this department as if you start working at 9:00, you will work till 18:00. The main task was to gather requirements from users and plan & manage the system for many departments which we support. Each project improved the way we work, reduce human-error, increases the accuracy of data and makes a lot of benefits to the organization. Our commitment is to have transformed the experience of our customers by offering them, for each and every product, timely and accurate services which are best-in-class for the industry, which will be used as a competitive weapon for the bank. To do this, we need to focus on results, make profit and loss sensible decisions and adopt an ‘everything is possible’ attitude.

To sum up, I have done so many projects even though I have worked in this short period and joined several project’s discussion with teams in both Thailand and overseas such as Hong Kong and Singapore. I contacted and co-operated with other departments to support their requirements. I had studied much useful information that was involved in my project. Not only a great working experience i gained from here, but also a certificate and internship salary.

The first time I get into Standard Chartered Bank (Thai) PCL for the interview, I feel this bank is the big international organization, there are 3 buildings at Head Office Sathorn. I heard this program from my faculty, Sirindhorn International Institute of Technology, Thammasat University. This program is mandatory to be finished within 2 months or 300 hours as part of the requirements for MTS301 Management Technology Training.

Fortunately, I had a good head and a good manager who assigned the interesting projects including other important tasks to me. I feel becoming part of team and taking full responsibility was the highlight of my internship. I love my job and like my colleague, they were very nice and supported much information to me.

I would like to thank you Standard Chartered Bank for giving me the opportunity for this internship program. Thank you head of System Development, who allow me to join the department. Thank you Project Manager, who gave the experience, taught working principle and assigned the good project to me. Thank you Service Supervisor, who helped and supported me many problems. Thank you everyone in my team circle, they fulfill color of working world in this office. This was the most impressive summer that I got from this internship program, Thank you very much!

In the next topic, I will introduce this bank, describe a wonderful internship experience & some interesting activities and show you what I have learned from this program.

  1. Dear Nutty, I have a few questions regarding your internship at SCBT. First, how do you apply to the internship? How long before the actual internship do you need to contact the bank? Second, what is the area that you suggest an economics student should apply to? Please leave a reply, thank youu.
